Around 5 p.m. on Friday, January 24, a 7-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man were leaving a home on the Westside when multiple people in a dark-colored vehicle, believed to be a Kia Soul, approached and opened fire.
Both victims were rushed to the hospital, where the 7-year-old succumbed to his injuries. The 21-year-old remains hospitalized in serious condition.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has identified the 21-year-old as a known gang associate and believes the shooting was gang-related.
“We will work tirelessly to hunt down everyone responsible for this horrific crime,” posted JSO in a statement.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be reported to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or anonymously through First Coast Crimestoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
