Driver Crashes Into Liquor Store, Arrested for DUI in Alachua County

A man was arrested for DUI after crashing his vehicle into a liquor store late Thursday night.

Alachua County deputies responded to the Hawthorne Liquor store, located in the 7000 block of US-301, after receiving reports of a vehicle crash. Upon arrival, deputies found a single vehicle inside the showroom of the store, having gone through the front entrance.

The driver, identified as John C. Lee, displayed signs of impairment. After performing poorly on Standardized Field Sobriety Exercises, Lee was placed under arrest for DUI and transported to the Alachua County Jail.

The estimated damage to the liquor store is approximately $20,000.
