Traffic Stop in Polk City Leads to Recovery of Two Missing Children

A traffic stop by Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Polk City resulted in the recovery of two missing and endangered children from St. Petersburg on Saturday, February 1.

Deputies conducted the stop at 5:20 p.m. on a red 2003 Mercury Mountaineer at 1060 Commonwealth Avenue. The driver was identified as 34-year-old Twanda Neal, and the front-seat passenger was identified as 50-year-old Anthony Davis, both from St. Petersburg.

Neal had an outstanding warrant from Pinellas County for child abuse. In the back seat of the vehicle, deputies found the two missing children.

During the stop, Neal called 911 and stated she was scared for her life. Deputies instructed her to hang up and exit the vehicle, but she refused and resisted. As a deputy attempted to remove her, Davis struck the deputies multiple times.

Both Neal and Davis were arrested. The children were turned over to the Florida Department of Children and Families. Neal was booked on the Pinellas County warrant and additional charges of misuse of 911 and resisting arrest. Davis was charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting with violence.
