Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Woman, Linked to Brentwood Double Shooting

James Antonio Hunter, 45, has been charged with the murder of 33-year-old Sierra McKenzie and a separate double shooting days later, authorities announced.

On January 23, Jacksonville patrol officers responded to a home on College Circle South off Kings Road, where they found McKenzie lying in a pool of blood on the sidewalk. The Medical Examiner’s Office determined she had died from a gunshot wound.

Earlier this month, the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force arrested Hunter on two outstanding warrants. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives later gathered evidence linking him to McKenzie’s murder. Investigators used forensic technology to connect him to additional crimes.

Robbery and Violent Crime Unit detectives have also charged Hunter with shooting two people in the head during a home invasion robbery on Main Street in the Brentwood neighborhood, which occurred just four days after McKenzie’s death. Both victims survived.

Hunter is currently in the Duval County jail, facing multiple charges, including murder and attempted murder.
