A late-night house fire in Sugarmill Woods claimed one life on Tuesday, February 18, according to Citrus County Fire Rescue.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 11:19 p.m. to a 2,400-square-foot residence engulfed in flames. Engine 18 from Sugarmill Woods arrived within minutes to find the home heavily involved. Due to the intensity of the fire, firefighters initiated a defensive attack to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighboring homes.
Once conditions allowed, crews conducted a search of the structure and discovered one deceased individual inside.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office.
