Florida State Attorney Melissa Nelson announced that a Duval County jury has found 33-year-old Brandon Paul Ricketson guilty of two counts of Attempted Second-Degree Murder and Shooting or Throwing Deadly Missiles. With this verdict, Ricketson faces up to 30 years in Florida State Prison. The Honorable London Kite will determine his sentence at a future date.
The incident occurred on the evening of August 23, 2021, when two women were seated outside a store on Lane Avenue around 10 p.m. Surveillance footage revealed that an older model, rusted Chevrolet Blazer approached the women. One of the women gestured for the driver to leave, prompting the vehicle to depart briefly before returning. Upon return, the driver fired two shots at the women, who managed to evade the gunfire. The business behind them was struck, and bullet fragments were later recovered from the sidewalk.
Hours after the shooting, an officer identified and stopped the suspect vehicle. Ricketson was driving and admitted to being at the convenience store earlier. He also disclosed the presence of a firearm in the vehicle’s console. The recovered firearm was analyzed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and matched the bullet fragments found at the scene.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation, and Assistant State Attorneys Corie Posey and Clare Kelly prosecuted the case.
