Just after midnight on February 14, 2025, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) officers responded to a shooting at the Hometown Inn & Suites on Mustang Road in Jacksonville’s Southside. Upon arrival, officers found 25-year-old Francis Bowling Jr. deceased from a gunshot wound. A 23-year-old pregnant woman was also discovered with non-life-threatening injuries and transported to a local hospital.

JSO’s Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Unit, and the State Attorney’s Office conducted a thorough investigation, utilizing witness statements, surveillance footage, and evidence from the scene. Their efforts led to the identification of 33-year-old Alvin Douglas Gay Jr. as the suspect. Gay was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, armed burglary with assault or battery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and tampering with evidence. He is currently held at the Duval County Jail.
