A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) officer and his wife demonstrated the true meaning of service when they responded to a rollover crash while on their way to celebrate their 7th wedding anniversary.
JSO Officer Malik Daricaud and his wife, Jasmine, were driving on Jacksonville’s Westside last Monday when they witnessed an SUV flip onto its side.
Without hesitation, Jasmine jumped out of the van and rushed to assist the driver. Officer Daricaud, who is recovering from a spinal cord injury sustained in a 2023 shooting, used their van to block the road and calmly called 911, utilizing his police skills to expedite the arrival of emergency services.
Jasmine, along with other Good Samaritans, helped extract the driver from the overturned vehicle. The driver sustained only minor injuries.
Jasmine had recently completed CPR and First Aid training through her church, which gave her the confidence to respond to the emergency.
Officer Daricaud praised his wife’s actions, stating, “Reason #456 why my wife of seven years is remarkable!”
Officer Daricaud, who now works in JSO’s Real-Time Crime Center, continues his recovery while using cutting-edge technology to assist in crime prevention and solving.
