Youth Sports Coach Arrested on Child Sexual Abuse Charges in Ocala

Richard Hawkins, 62, a youth sports coach and business owner, has been arrested on charges of indecent, lewd, or lascivious touching of a minor and false imprisonment following allegations of sexual abuse.

Ocala Police officers responded to Saddleworth Green Apartments on February 23, 2025, to investigate a report involving a 16-year-old victim, a family friend of Hawkins. The victim reported staying overnight at Hawkins’ apartment and later told his father that he awoke to find his underwear pulled down. The victim also alleged that Hawkins blocked his exit when he tried to leave.

The victim’s father contacted Hawkins, who reportedly admitted to the allegations.

Upon arrival, officers arrested Hawkins. Detective Thomas found probable cause to charge him with indecent, lewd, or lascivious touching of a minor, false imprisonment, and open carry of a firearm. He was taken to the Marion County Jail.

Given Hawkins’ involvement in coaching youth athletes and his part-ownership of a children’s entertainment and sports business, authorities are concerned there may be additional victims.

The Ocala Police Department is urging anyone with relevant information or similar experiences involving Hawkins to come forward and contact law enforcement.
