A 65-year-old man was arrested Monday after allegedly brandishing a firearm during a road rage incident in Lake City.
At approximately 11:52 a.m. on March 3, officers from the Lake City Police Department responded to South Main Boulevard and Brown Street after a complainant reported that the driver of a black Nissan Frontier had pointed a firearm at him while traveling southbound. Fearing for his safety, the complainant left the area and reported the incident to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputy.
Deputies quickly located the suspect’s vehicle traveling southbound on US-41 before it turned eastbound onto SE County Road 252. A traffic stop was conducted near the intersection of Peacock Terrace.
During the investigation, authorities identified the suspect as Joe R. Markham. It was determined that he had exited his vehicle and pointed a black handgun at the complainant. A search of Markham’s vehicle led to the discovery of a black Ruger Mark Two .22 caliber handgun, which matched the description provided by the complainant.
Markham was arrested and transported to the Columbia County Detention Center without incident.
