Traffic Stop Leads to Seizure of 66.5 Grams of Fentanyl in Citrus County

A routine traffic stop in Citrus County led to the discovery of a large quantity of fentanyl, resulting in the arrest of a Wildwood man early Tuesday morning.

While patrolling the west side of the county, Deputies Danner and Richardson observed a white Ford Fusion commit a traffic violation on West Yulee Drive in Homosassa. The driver, Cornelius Darnell Salters Jr. of Wildwood, was stopped and agreed to a search of his vehicle.

During the search, Deputy Barr’s K9 partner, Marino, alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics. Further investigation led to the discovery of multiple baggies of a white powder-like substance hidden behind the steering column of the vehicle.

Salters Jr. also consented to a search of his person, leading deputies to find a plastic baggie containing two alprazolam pills.

Once all evidence was collected, a field test confirmed the baggies contained fentanyl, totaling approximately 66.5 grams.

Salters Jr. was transported to the Citrus County Detention Facility, where he was charged with:

  • Trafficking in Fentanyl
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

He is currently being held without bond.
