The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) Homicide Unit has closed a 2023 murder case with the arrests of Xavier Slater, 24, and Lucious Brown, 37.
On May 20, 2023, officers found 33-year-old Edwin Mack deceased inside a burnt vehicle on Lenox Avenue.
Detectives’ investigation identified Slater and Brown as suspects.
Slater has been in custody since January 2024, charged with murder. Detectives continued their investigation and obtained a warrant for Brown. Brown, who was already in jail on attempted armed robbery charges, was re-arrested on Tuesday and now faces charges of murder and arson, among others.
The JSO emphasized their commitment to pursuing justice for victims and their families, regardless of the time elapsed.
