18-Year-Old Suspect Charged in Deadly Macclenny Shooting

On February 21, 2025, Baker County deputies responded to a shooting on Hillcrest Drive in Macclenny that left three people shot. A 20-year-old male was killed, while two others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives launched an extensive investigation, gathering evidence and conducting interviews over the past month. Their efforts led to the arrest of 18-year-old John Robert Akridge III for his role in the shooting. Akridge, who was already in custody on a gun-related charge connected to the incident, now faces additional charges, including second-degree felony murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, and discharging a firearm in a public place.

Sheriff Scotty Rhoden commended his team of detectives for their dedication in resolving the case and reaffirmed his department’s commitment to combating gun violence in Baker County.
