St. Pete Beach Man Arrested for Misuse of Laser on Sheriff’s Helicopter

A St. Pete Beach man was arrested on March 27, 2025, for felony Misuse of a Laser Lighting Device after he allegedly illuminated a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office helicopter with a green laser.

At approximately 10:47 p.m., deputies were assisting with an Aggravated Assault call near 6850 Beach Plaza when flight deputies observed a green laser being pointed directly at the helicopter multiple times. The deputies traced the laser’s source to a condo balcony at 6083 Bahia Del Mar Circle, Unit 360.

The suspect, 61-year-old Dann Wagner, admitted to using the laser device when approached by deputies.

Under Florida State Statute, it is a third-degree felony to knowingly point or shine a laser at any aircraft, motor vehicle, or vessel. Wagner was arrested and charged with one count of felony Misuse of a Laser Lighting Device and transported to the Pinellas County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing.
