Two 17-year-olds have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 7-year-old Breon Allen, who was killed on January 24 in what investigators describe as a targeted attack linked to escalating violence between rival street groups.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) detectives arrested Donte McGhee and Tavaris Kelly on charges of Murder, Attempted Murder, and Conspiracy to Commit Murder. Investigators determined that McGhee and Kelly were the gunmen who fired the shots that killed Breon and injured his cousin, Lafayette Mango.
Authorities had previously arrested four other individuals in connection with the case: Keith Johnson, Dannel Larkins, Zharod Sykes, and Keith Fields. They face the same charges as McGhee and Kelly.
JSO credited its Major Case Section detectives, officers, and analysts for their extensive efforts in identifying and arresting those involved. The department vowed to continue working with the State Attorney’s Office to pursue justice for Breon’s family.
The investigation remains ongoing.
