A 17-year-old suspect, Camilo Campagna, wanted for child abduction in Georgia, has been apprehended in St. Joe Beach, Florida, and the victim has been found safe.
On Sunday, March 30th, at approximately 1:15 PM, the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Sandy Springs Police Department in Georgia regarding a child abduction. They provided a possible location of the suspect in Gulf County, along with information that he was armed and driving a white Mercedes SUV.
Gulf County Sheriff’s Office deputies located the vehicle, and a felony traffic stop was initiated at the intersection of Hwy 98 and Selma Street in St. Joe Beach. The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office, Port Saint Joe Police Department, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and Florida Highway Patrol conducted the stop.
The victim was found safe at the location.
Camilo Campagna was taken into custody on warrants issued from the state of Georgia. He is being charged with:
- Child pornography
- Aggravated child molestation
- Child molestation – victim between 14 and 16
- Possession of child pornography
- Possession of sexually explicit content
- Grooming of a minor
- Loitering and prowling
Due to his age, Campagna will be detained at the Department of Juvenile Justice in Bay County.
The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Port St. Joe Police Department, FWC, Florida Highway Patrol, and Sandy Springs Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension.
