A 26-year-old man, Angel Valdes, has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder after a road rage incident that involved him firing shots at another vehicle.
The incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. on April 2, 2025, on Highway 17 and County Road 220. A Ford F-150, driven by Valdes, and a sedan were traveling southbound when the sedan moved into the turn lane at the intersection of Live Oak Lane. Valdes, driving the F-150, then pulled around the sedan, blocking their path.
Valdes exited his truck and began verbally assaulting the occupants of the sedan. He then produced a handgun and fired three shots at the sedan. After firing the shots, Valdes fled southbound on US17 in his pickup truck.
The victims immediately called 911 and provided a partial license plate number and a description of Valdes. The Real Time Crime Center used license plate readers in the area to identify the full license plate number and provided real time location updates to patrol units.
Within nine minutes of the initial call, Valdes’ truck was located in Green Cove Springs, and he was apprehended with the assistance of the Green Cove Springs Police Department. The firearm used in the incident was found inside his truck.
No one was injured during the shooting.
