The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with the murders of 21-year-old Donte’ris Woods and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Kyliah James, in November 2023.
On the night of November 18, 2023, JSO officers found Donte’ris Woods deceased from a gunshot wound on St. Johns Avenue in the Avondale area. The following day, November 19, his girlfriend, Kyliah James, was discovered murdered in Clay County. Investigators determined that James was killed in Duval County.
Following a meticulous investigation by JSO Homicide and Crime Scene detectives, working with the State Attorney’s Office and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Malik Raheem Tafara Lamarcus Johnson was identified as the suspect.
On Friday, April 4, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Task Force located and apprehended Johnson. He has been booked into the Duval County jail on two counts of murder.
The JSO emphasized that this arrest was the result of extensive teamwork and a commitment to achieving justice for the families of the victims. They stated their continued dedication to using all available resources to remove violent offenders from the streets.
