St. Petersburg Detectives Assist in Arrest of Women Wanted for Nebraska Shooting

Detectives with the St. Petersburg Police Department assisted the U.S. Marshals Service in the apprehension of two women wanted in connection with a shooting that injured a man in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Sunday, May 4th.

On Thursday, May 8th, officers executed a search warrant at a residence located at 773 42 Avenue South and took 32-year-old Elyssia Ochoa and 36-year-old Malorie Rogers into custody. Ochoa faces four felony charges in Nebraska, including burglary, first-degree assault, use of a firearm to commit a felony, and discharge of a firearm near a vehicle or building.

The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) responded to a report of a shooting in the area of South Third and H streets at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Sunday. A 36-year-old Lincoln man was found with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and neck and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators in Nebraska discovered three spent 9mm shell casings in front of the victim’s residence. The victim identified Ochoa as the shooter and reported a prior incident three months earlier where she allegedly fired at his house. He also told LPD about seeing Ochoa at a bar shortly before the Sunday morning shooting. According to court documents, the victim stated that after he and a friend returned to his home from the bar, a car belonging to Ochoa pulled up and at least five shots were fired. Twenty minutes later, the victim reported that Ochoa kicked in his bedroom door and shot him.

The victim’s friend corroborated his account in an interview with investigators, confirming she was with him during the Sunday morning shooting. She also told LPD that earlier, while they were driving back to his home, a woman in a black car shot at them near South Fourth and J streets. Surveillance video reportedly supported the friend’s description of this earlier shooting. Police later found five spent 9mm shell casings at the same intersection.

In addition to the arrest warrants related to the Nebraska shooting, Ochoa and Rogers face local charges in St. Petersburg. Ochoa is charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine (45.4 grams), and Rogers is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
