Elderly Man Arrested for Attempted Murder After Firing at Victims in Alachua County

An 81-year-old man has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Attempted Murder following an armed disturbance where he allegedly fired a handgun at individuals attempting to clean a property they owned.

During the afternoon of Wednesday, May 22, 2025, Deputy F. Williams responded to SE CR-234 regarding the reported disturbance. Victims informed law enforcement that they had gone to clean a residence they owned in preparation for selling it when they encountered John Morgan Webb, 81, inside the home.

When the victims advised Webb that he was not supposed to be there, he reportedly drew a revolver from his pants and fired a single round into the ceiling. As the victims tried to leave the structure, Webb allegedly stated, “No, don’t move; you got to die first.” He then followed them outside and fired multiple rounds at their vehicle as they attempted to flee. Several rounds struck the vehicle, disabling its engine and causing it to stop in the middle of SE CR-234.

Webb subsequently left the scene in his vehicle but was later intercepted by deputies. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and Webb was detained without incident.

Based on video evidence, victim statements, and an interview with Webb, he was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Attempted Murder.
