A Colorado man, Michael Karl Geilenfeld, 73, most recently of Littleton, has been sentenced to 210 years in prison for the sexual abuse of numerous children at St. Joseph’s Home for Boys, an orphanage he founded and directed in Haiti.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Geilenfeld operated the home for orphaned and vulnerable children from 1985 for over two decades. During this time, he repeatedly traveled from the United States to Haiti to sexually abuse the boys in his care, and also subjected them to physical and emotional abuse.
In February 2025, a federal jury convicted Geilenfeld of one count of traveling in foreign commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct and six counts of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place, spanning from 2005 to 2010. Each of the six counts of illicit sexual conduct related to a separate child victim.
At trial, multiple victims, including those who were the subject of the charged offenses and others, testified about the sexual and physical abuse they endured and its devastating impact. Witnesses also detailed Geilenfeld’s manipulative tactics to maintain his operation and financial support.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the FBI, and prosecuted by Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney Lacee Monk for the Southern District of Florida and Trial Attorneys Jessica L. Urban and Eduardo Palomo of the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS).
