Woman Sentenced to 8 Years for DUI Manslaughter in Fatal Hit-and-Run of UF Student

On Monday, June 2, 2025, Margaret Caitlin Walker was sentenced to eight years in prison for DUI Manslaughter in connection with the death of a University of Florida graduate student on November 27, 2022.

The incident occurred during nighttime hours on South Main Street, where Walker, driving a 2017 Volvo SUV, struck the victim riding a bicycle. Walker did not stop or report the crash and continued driving home. The victim was thrown into a wooded area by the force of the impact and died from his injuries.

An investigation led by authorities identified vehicle parts at the crash scene that matched Walker’s SUV. During a police interview, Walker admitted to visiting multiple bars that day and consuming alcohol at each. She stated she felt “tipsy” when she left the last bar and thought she had hit a traffic pole, not realizing it was a person.

Walker was sentenced in a Florida courtroom and will serve her time in state prison.
