A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting that occurred on Monday, May 26, in the Normandy Village area.
Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) patrol officers responded to reports of a shooting on Lane Avenue, where they found Amarion Mitchell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported Mitchell to a local hospital, where he remained in critical condition for several days before succumbing to his injuries. He had turned 22 earlier that month.
Following an investigation by JSO Homicide detectives, Muhammad Thomas, 22, was identified as the suspected shooter. Thomas was already in the Duval County Jail on an unrelated charge when a murder warrant was issued. He remains in custody.
JSO officials stated they will continue working with the State Attorney’s Office in pursuit of justice for Mitchell and his family.
