Bottle Attack During Road Rage Incident Leads to Arrest of Naples Man

A 25-year-old Naples man is facing multiple felony charges after a road rage incident Wednesday night resulted in injuries to three people when a glass bottle was hurled into their vehicle.

Deputies with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office responded at 8:58 p.m. to reports of a possible shooting on Golden Gate Boulevard near Desoto Boulevard. Arriving on scene, deputies found the front windshield of a vehicle shattered and three occupants injured by broken glass.

The victims reported hearing what sounded like gunfire as another vehicle sped past them. The driver believed he had been shot. However, after an investigation, authorities determined that no firearm was involved.

According to the sheriff’s office, Cristian Ureche was identified as the suspect with the help of cellphone video and victim statements. Deputies located Ureche at his residence on Golden Gate Boulevard East.

Detectives later determined that Ureche threw a glass bottle from his moving vehicle into the victims’ vehicle. During an interview with deputies, Ureche requested a bottle of water. His mother handed him a bottle of Perrier water — the same brand as the crushed bottle retrieved from the victims’ car.

Ureche was taken into custody and charged with three felony counts related to the incident.

“This kind of behavior will not be tolerated on our roads in Collier County,” said Sheriff Kevin Rambosk.
