The Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is continuing its investigation into the discovery of human remains found in the St. Johns River off Highway 17 in Fleming Island. Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the deceased individual.
On May 7, 2025, at approximately 5:07 p.m., a local homeowner contacted 911 after discovering skeletal remains at the bulkhead of their property along the St. Johns River. CCSO Patrol units, detectives, and a dive team promptly responded to the 3200 block of US17, near the Doctors Lake bridge, to begin their investigation.
The victim is believed to have had multiple leg tattoos, including a distinctive partial tattoo. A sketch of this partial tattoo, based on the state of decomposition, has been provided by authorities.
Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to submit a tip anonymously through the SaferWatch app. Information leading to an arrest or significant advancement in the case may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000.
