On June 10, 2025, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) arrested 26-year-old Zachary Degross after he posted a threatening comment on social media. A vigilant citizen reported that Degross had written he would run over protesters in Jacksonville with a tow truck.
JSO’s Intelligence Unit quickly traced the comment to Degross. After questioning him at his home, detectives gathered enough evidence to arrest him. Degross is currently held in the Duval County jail.
JSO emphasized that while peaceful protest is a constitutional right, threatening others is a felony. The department urges the public to report any online threats immediately and stated it is monitoring protests closely to ensure safety throughout Jacksonville.
