Alachua County Man Arrested for Publix Vandalism, Linked to Over 10 Additional Incidents

Amos A. Reece, 43, was arrested in the early morning hours of June 17, 2025, after allegedly shattering windows at the Springhill Publix and is now linked to over 10 additional acts of vandalism in the area, including slashed tires and other broken windows.

Deputies responded to a report of a broken window at the Publix located at 9200 NW 39th Avenue shortly after the store manager heard loud crashing noises and observed a suspect fleeing westbound. Deputies obtained surveillance footage to aid in identification.

A K-9 track, assisted by Alachua County Fire Rescue with aerial drone support, was initiated in a nearby wooded area. While the initial search did not locate the suspect, another deputy later spotted a person matching the suspect’s description under the I-75 overpass at mile marker 390, shortly before 3:30 a.m.

The individual was identified as Amos Reece. Following an interview, deputies determined Reece was responsible for the damage at Publix. A multi-tool was found on his person and collected as evidence. Reece was initially arrested and charged with felony Criminal Mischief, with damage to property estimated at $1,000 or more. Authorities noted Reece has no prior convictions for similar offenses.

Shortly after Reece’s arrest, the Combined Communications Center began receiving additional reports of property damage in the vicinity of the original incident. Multiple people and business owners reported slashed tires and other broken windows, totaling more than 10 acts of vandalism.

Based on the ongoing investigation, deputies have established probable cause to charge Reece in connection with these additional incidents, and he is expected to face further charges.

The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office commended the “outstanding teamwork and determination” of its deputies, K-9 unit, Alachua County Fire Rescue, and Combined Communications Center personnel for bringing “swift resolution to a crime spree that affected many in our community.”
