The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Joseph Francis Palmese Jr., 34, of Palm Coast, on multiple charges after he allegedly entered a Palm Coast residence without permission and engaged in a physical altercation with the occupants.
On the evening of June 17, deputies responded to a report of a residential burglary in progress on Renshaw Drive. Upon arrival, they found the victim had subdued Palmese on the living room floor. Deputies separated the individuals and restrained Palmese, during which they discovered a handgun in his pocket.
Interviews with the victim and two witnesses inside the home revealed that Palmese had knocked on the front door, and as the victim opened it, Palmese lunged at him and forced his way inside. A struggle ensued, during which the victim called for help. Another resident called 911 while a third assisted in subduing Palmese.
The victim stated that he recognized Palmese as an acquaintance only after the altercation had begun. He confirmed that he had not initially recognized Palmese at the door, had not invited him over, and did not know why he would be at his home.
When interviewed, Palmese told deputies he was at the residence to confront the victim, claiming the victim owed him money. Palmese asserted that the victim had previously given him a coin set, watch, and ring as payment, which he intended to pawn. After discovering the items were worthless, Palmese stated he returned to retrieve his money and confront the victim.
At the conclusion of the investigation, deputies determined that Palmese had illegally entered the residence while in possession of a firearm and had battered the homeowner. Palmese was arrested and charged with Burglary with Possession of a Firearm and Battery.
“Regardless of your reasons, you cannot enter someone’s home without their permission and fight them,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “This guy made a poor decision while armed with a gun. That was a recipe for disaster, and I’m glad it did not escalate to the point where anyone was seriously injured or killed.”
Palmese was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held without bond.
