Clay County Man Convicted of Murdering Father Faces Mandatory Life Sentence

A Clay County jury has found Danny Dustin guilty of Second-Degree Murder with a Weapon, as announced by State Attorney Melissa Nelson. This verdict carries a mandatory life sentence in Florida State Prison for Dustin, who has been designated a Prison Releasee Reoffender. The Honorable James Kallaher will formally sentence Dustin at a later date.

The tragic incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on March 6, 2020, when the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from Dustin himself, requesting help at his Wren Lane home. Upon arrival, officers heard Dustin calling for assistance from inside the residence. They entered to find Dustin’s father suffering from over 20 stab wounds, including 13 to his head and neck. He succumbed to his injuries.

Dustin was transported to the hospital for observation due to an altered mental state and intoxication. A subsequent search warrant of the home led detectives to discover three knives believed to have been used in the murder. The investigation further revealed that on the afternoon of the murder, Dustin had recorded himself on Facebook Live, intoxicated and arguing with his father. The scene indicated that his father was sitting in his recliner when the stabbing began.

The case was investigated by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Ashley Terry and Jamie Cona.
