A routine traffic stop early this morning in Ocala resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old man on drug and firearm charges.
Around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, deputies I. Minck and K. Sosa pulled over a vehicle in the 1100 block of NE 3rd Avenue for a traffic infraction. They identified the driver as Erik Baker, 36, and also made contact with a passenger.
While speaking with the passenger, deputies noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car. Baker denied having any illegal drugs or firearms. Based on the odor, deputies conducted a probable cause search of both Baker and the vehicle.
During the search, deputies found a large bulge in Baker’s sock. Inside, they discovered a metal tube containing a white rock substance, which later tested positive for cocaine. Inside the vehicle, a loaded semi-automatic handgun was also found, not stored in a holster or case.
Following questioning, Erik Baker was arrested. He faces charges of Carrying a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription, and Possession of Drug Equipment.
