Gainesville Teen Arrested for Attempted Murder After Violent Domestic Assault

A 19-year-old Gainesville man is facing serious charges following a violent domestic assault early Wednesday morning.

Around 3:00 a.m. on July 2, 2025, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a battery report in the 1100 block of SE 41st Drive. Upon arrival, deputies found a distressed victim who reported being attacked by 19-year-old Michael Lee Tyree-Gardner.

According to the victim, the altercation began with threats and aggression during an argument. The victim attempted to de-escalate the situation by retreating to a separate room and locking the door. Tyree-Gardner allegedly kicked in the door, physically assaulted the victim, and made death threats while covering their nose and mouth, obstructing their ability to breathe. The victim was reportedly punched multiple times before escaping, arming themselves with a knife, and calling for help.

Tyree-Gardner fled the scene before deputies arrived. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A search for the suspect was launched immediately. Just before 8:00 a.m., deputies spotted Tyree-Gardner returning to the area. A perimeter was established, and he was taken into custody without incident in the 1900 block of SE 35th Street.

Tyree-Gardner has been charged with Domestic Battery by Strangulation and Attempted Murder.
