A 22-year-old woman is in custody after allegedly kidnapping a 9-year-old boy who was selling water along the roadside in Northwest Jacksonville. The incident occurred on Friday, June 27, and was swiftly resolved thanks to the courageous actions of a nearby witness.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, Mikaya Tachelle Williams, stopped her vehicle and attempted to lure the child into her car. When he refused, she reportedly exited her vehicle, forcibly pulled the boy inside, and drove away.
A family friend of the victim witnessed the kidnapping and immediately followed the vehicle to the area of West 45th Street. When Williams stopped, the witness quickly intervened, removed the child from the car, and used their own vehicle to block the suspect in until law enforcement arrived.
Williams was arrested at the scene without further incident. The child was unharmed and reunited with his family.
Detectives from JSO’s Special Assault Unit took over the investigation and charged Williams with Kidnapping, a first-degree felony. She is currently being held at the Duval County Jail with no bond.
JSO officials credited the witness for their quick thinking and bravery, which directly led to the safe recovery of the child.
