Multi-Stabbing Incident in Daytona Beach, Suspect Killed by Deputies

A stabbing incident in Daytona Beach Saturday night ended in the fatal shooting of a knife-wielding suspect by law enforcement after he charged at officers during a search of the home.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. on July 5, deputies with the Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) responded to the 1400 block of Derbyshire Road following reports of a stabbing. On arrival, deputies located two male victims — a 16-year-old and a 39-year-old — suffering from multiple stab wounds. Both were transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Authorities learned that the suspect was still inside the residence and that a third victim might also be present. A team composed of deputies and officers from Daytona Beach Police Department, Ormond Beach Police Department, and Holly Hill Police Department entered the home in an attempt to rescue any additional victims.

While clearing the residence, the suspect suddenly burst out of a bedroom, screaming and brandishing a large knife raised above his head. Law enforcement opened fire, striking the suspect multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers or deputies were injured during the incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is handling the investigation into the shooting. Per protocol, the deputies and Daytona Beach Police officers involved have been placed on temporary administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
