Jacksonville Man Receives Multiple Life Sentences for Triple Murder, Second Deadly Shooting

Owen Cosme has been sentenced to four life sentences in Florida State Prison for his role in a 2021 triple murder, and a concurrent 25 years for a separate 2020 deadly shooting. The sentence was handed down by the Honorable Jeb Branham after Cosme pleaded guilty to all charges on March 27, 2025, announced State Attorney Melissa Nelson.

The 2021 triple murder occurred on February 8, 2021. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) patrol officers in the Moncrief neighborhood heard gunshots and observed a vehicle driving erratically from the scene. A high-speed chase ensued, ending in the arrests of Cosme and his co-defendants. The subsequent investigation revealed that Cosme and several others had planned an armed robbery at a Moncrief apartment complex. Armed with weapons, Cosme knocked on the apartment door, and when a victim opened it, he fired over 20 rounds, killing three people inside.

During the investigation, 40-caliber casings collected from the scene were processed through the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN). These casings matched an unsolved homicide from July 23, 2020, where a victim was shot more than 20 times and killed outside his apartment. Investigators determined that Cosme and the 2020 victim knew each other and were in conflict over child custody issues; the victim was the maternal uncle of Cosme’s child.

Cosme’s convictions include three counts of Second-Degree Murder with a Weapon, Armed Burglary with Assault or Battery, and Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery for the 2021 triple murder. For the 2020 shooting, he was sentenced for one count of Second-Degree Murder.

The case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Trey Atkinson.
