Shoplifting Suspect Caught After Riding on UPS Truck in Palm Coast

A shoplifting suspect who attempted to steal nearly $1,500 in merchandise from Lowe’s was apprehended after being spotted riding on the back of a UPS truck, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO).

On July 3, Flagler County deputies responded to a shoplifting report at Lowe’s in Palm Coast. The suspect, however, abandoned the items and fled before deputies arrived.

Shortly after, FCSO received a call from a concerned citizen who observed a man riding on the back of a UPS truck on Palm Coast Parkway. The UPS driver eventually stopped the truck near Lupia Court and told the man to disembark.

Through investigative means, Problem Area Crime Enforcement (PACE) Unit detectives and the Real Time Crime Center tracked the suspect’s movements and confirmed he was the individual from the Lowe’s incident. The PACE Unit quickly located Michael Daversa, 31, of Holly Hill, Florida, and arrested him for shoplifting – grand theft.

Daversa was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held on a $15,000 bond.

“Thanks to a citizen seeing something and saying something, we were able to get this thief off the streets,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “He tried to get away on a UPS truck, but instead earned himself free same-day delivery to the Green Roof Inn.”
