Two fugitives who left Flagler County in an attempt to evade law enforcement were recently located and arrested, thanks to coordinated efforts by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) and partnering agencies.
On June 10, the FCSO Fugitive Unit received a violation of probation warrant for Andrew Jones II, 24, of Bunnell, who was on sex offender probation. Investigators discovered Jones had removed his ankle monitor and fled the area. With assistance from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, deputies tracked him to a residence in Waynesville, Georgia. On June 26, the Fugitive Unit traveled to Georgia and, working with the Brantley County Sheriff’s Office, apprehended Jones. He was taken to the Brantley County Jail and later extradited to Flagler County, where he remains in custody at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility without bond.

In a separate case, on July 1, FCSO received a warrant for Bruce Schelberger, 48, of Palm Coast, for failing to register as a habitual violent career criminal. The Problem Area Crime Enforcement (PACE) Unit located Schelberger’s vehicle at a motel in Ormond Beach. Working with the Ormond Beach Police Department, officers arrested him on-site. Schelberger was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail and has since been released on bond.
“Whether they flee the county or even the state, fugitives can’t escape the long arm of the law,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “These two fugitives learned the hard way the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office works with local, state, and federal partners to bring criminals to justice no matter how far they run.”
