Woman Sentenced to 7 Years for DUI Manslaughter in Deadly Gainesville Crash

GAINESVILLE, FL – On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, Ronesha Nicole Butler was sentenced to seven years in prison for DUI Manslaughter, followed by three years of probation and a lifetime suspension of her driver’s license. The sentencing stems from a fatal crash that occurred on the evening of August 30, 2024.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. on August 30, 2024, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 5300 block of NE Waldo Road (State Road 24). Investigators determined the vehicle was traveling southbound in the turn lane when it continued across NW 53rd Avenue, left the roadway, and struck a utility pole head-on.

A 53-year-old man seated in the rear driver’s side of the vehicle was transported under a trauma alert but later succumbed to his injuries. The front seat passenger reported a verbal argument between himself and Butler just prior to the crash. Officers located alcohol inside the vehicle.

Butler was transported from the scene with serious injuries. Hospital staff conducted a blood draw upon her admittance due to her incoherent demeanor. The test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.188 g/100mL—over twice the legal limit.

Butler entered a plea and was sentenced on July 15, 2025.
