JACKSONVILLE, FL – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) has announced a significant development in the murder case of 14-year-old Micah Thomas, with the recent arrest of an eighteenth individual bringing the total number of people facing charges to ten. JSO emphasized its commitment to seeing every person responsible for the senseless act of violence held accountable.

Micah Thomas was found deceased inside a home in the Sherwood Forest neighborhood on January 1, 2024, after patrol officers responded to the residence. The Medical Examiner’s autopsy later confirmed his cause of death as homicide.
This month, 18-year-old Quanterria Bennett was arrested for her alleged role in Thomas’ death.

Vernita Smith, Micah Thomas’ mother, expressed profound gratitude to law enforcement, stating, “My family and I would like to thank Detective Henry Rivers for his incredible dedication, hard work and relentless pursuit of justice for my son, Micah Thomas’ case. Your effort led to 10 arrests, and we’re truly grateful.”
JSO affirmed its continued collaboration with the State Attorney’s Office to ensure all ten individuals charged in Thomas’ death are held accountable for their actions.
