Group of Six Charged in String of Jacksonville Shootings That Left Dog Dead

In August 2024, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office District 6 officers responded to a shooting on Park Avenue, where suspects opened fire on an occupied home, fatally striking a Great Dane named Naomi on the front porch.

Through ballistic evidence and information from the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN), detectives identified two suspects: 19-year-old Logan Kurlin and 22-year-old Nathan Kizer. A stolen Hyundai Sonata was also recovered in the investigation.

Interviews with the suspects revealed the existence of a group of friends connected to multiple shootings across the city. Investigators linked the group to 11 separate shooting-related cases, some previously unreported.

The following individuals are now facing charges:

  • Logan Kurlin (19)
  • Nathan Kizer (22)
  • Louis Gill (23)
  • Jeremiah Simmonds (18)
All four are charged with seven counts of Attempted Murder and additional charges related to the August shooting that resulted in the death of the dog.
  • Darrell Brill (21)
  • Hannah Johnson (16)
Each charged with two counts of Attempted Murder and other related charges.

The Crime Gun Intelligence Center continues to investigate whether the group is tied to other shootings in Jacksonville. The State Attorney’s Office is working closely with JSO to pursue prosecution.

Authorities remind the community of the importance of monitoring youths’ activities and associations to help prevent violent crimes.
