A 24-year-old man from Arcadia, Israel Rivas, was arrested this week after violently shaking his two-month-old infant in the parking lot of a Fort Myers bar, according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office detectives.
Rivas had been at the Nauti Parrot Oasis with friends but agreed to stay outside with the infant. The next morning, the child began vomiting, leading the mother to seek medical attention.
Medical staff confirmed the infant suffered from shaken baby syndrome, though no lasting injuries were reported. Rivas admitted to shaking the child out of frustration due to constant crying.
The Special Victims Unit presented the case to the State Attorney’s Office, which issued a child abuse warrant. Rivas was arrested by Charlotte County deputies and booked into jail before being released on bond.
