Clay County Teen Arrested for False School Shooting Threat Made Through FortifyFL App

A Clay County student has been arrested after authorities say he made a false report about a planned school shooting.

Around 7 a.m. Wednesday, the FortifyFL app received a tip claiming that a Clay High School student intended to bring a gun to campus and shoot others. Clay High was placed on a modified secured status while the Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigated.

Deputies identified the suspect as 14-year-old Ahmon Laster, a student at Bannerman Learning Center. Out of caution, Bannerman was also placed on a modified secured status. Laster was located at his home, and both schools lifted the security measures once he was in custody.

Investigators say Laster knowingly submitted a false tip to implicate his brother, a Clay High student, following a disagreement. He was arrested for Making a False Report Concerning the Use of a Firearm in a Violent Manner. Authorities found no evidence that Laster had access to a firearm or brought one onto school property.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Clay County School Board emphasized that threats of violence will not be tolerated and urged the public to report suspicious activity through 911, the non-emergency line at (904) 264-6512, or the SaferWatch app.
