Two Juveniles Arrested After Fleeing Eye Clinic, Attempting Vehicle Theft in Spring Hill

On August 14, 2025, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a physical disturbance near Cortez Boulevard and Ovenbird Road in Spring Hill. Deputies quickly detained two 15-year-old juveniles who had fled from a staff member of the Brooksville Youth Academy.

The juveniles had been transported to a medical appointment at an eye clinic in the Weeki Wachee Village Shopping Center. While inside the clinic, both fled on foot, leading a staff member to pursue them. During the pursuit, one juvenile physically engaged a sheriff’s lieutenant attempting to detain him.

Investigators later discovered the juveniles had broken into an unoccupied hotel room at the Quality Inn at 9373 Cortez Boulevard and attempted to steal a vehicle from the nearby Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative parking lot. All vehicles were locked.

The juveniles were charged with burglary, attempted burglary of a conveyance, and resisting an officer without violence. One juvenile also faced a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer. After processing at the Hernando County Detention Center, both were returned to the Brooksville Youth Academy.

On August 15, 2025, a judge ordered both juveniles removed from the academy and remanded to the Department of Juvenile Justice facility in Ocala.
