HAINES CITY, Fla. — On August 17, 2025, Haines City Police Officers Elam and Ramirez conducted a traffic stop near Florida Avenue and B Street that resulted in the arrest of 40-year-old Jose Diaz Serrano on multiple drug and firearm charges.
During the stop, Diaz Serrano consented to a vehicle search. Officers located two loaded handgun magazines and a loaded Glock handgun inside the vehicle. When asked to exit, Diaz Serrano attempted to destroy evidence by throwing a suspected bag of drugs to the ground and concealing another bag inside his clothing.
Once safely detained, officers recovered the concealed items, which included:
- 19 individually packaged baggies of fentanyl
- 6 larger bags of fentanyl
- 1 baggie with cocaine residue
- 1 larger bag of fentanyl in his pocket
The substances field-tested positive for fentanyl, with a combined weight of approximately 10 grams.
Diaz Serrano was arrested and charged with:
- Armed Trafficking in Fentanyl
- Tampering with Evidence
- Possession of Cocaine
- Possession of Paraphernalia
- Maintaining a Drug Shop/Trafficking
- Resisting Officer Without Violence
“This arrest highlights the dangers our officers face daily, as well as their dedication to protecting our community,” said Haines City Police Chief Jay Hopwood. “We are proud of their professionalism in removing dangerous drugs and a firearm from our streets.”
The Haines City Police Department stated it remains committed to combating illegal drugs and firearms within the community.
