MIDDLEBURG, Fla. – A 57-year-old man was arrested Thursday evening after a road rage incident escalated into gunfire in the parking lot of the Walmart Neighborhood Market on County Road 220.
Deputies responded around 7 p.m. on August 21 following multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired. Investigators determined that the suspect, identified as David Lee Garcia, and another driver were involved in a road rage dispute while traveling on CR 220.
The victim pulled into the Walmart parking lot, with Garcia following closely behind. Garcia then drove around the victim, stopped nearby, and after a brief argument, fired multiple rounds from a handgun. Bullets struck the victim’s vehicle as well as two uninvolved cars parked nearby. One of the cars was occupied by an adult and child, but no injuries were reported.
The victim sustained a superficial injury and was treated at the scene by Clay Fire Rescue personnel. Both the victim and Garcia left the parking lot after the incident and later contacted authorities.
Garcia was interviewed and taken into custody. He faces charges of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Shooting a Firearm into an Occupied Conveyance.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reminded drivers to remain calm on the roads and urged anyone witnessing reckless or aggressive driving to call CCSO at (904) 264-6512 or submit information via the Safer Watch App https://getsaferwatch.com.
