VOLUSIA COUNTY, FL—A Volusia County jury has convicted David Baker of robbery with a weapon and sexual battery following a two-day trial.
The conviction stems from an incident on December 14, 2024, when Baker held a woman at gunpoint in the parking lot of a Daytona Beach motel. He then forced the victim into a vehicle, sexually battered her, and stole her cell phones and cash.
The victim provided a detailed description of her assailant to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, which led deputies to quickly locate and apprehend Baker in the area.
State Attorney R.J. Larizza commented on the conviction, stating, “A rapist and robber tried, convicted and soon to be off the streets for good.” Larizza noted that Baker had been recently released from prison and “chose to continue his violent criminal behavior.”
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office led the investigation. Assistant State Attorney Boone Forkner prosecuted the case for the state, with the Honorable Christian Miller presiding. Baker will be sentenced at a later date as a Prison Releasee Reoffender and a Habitual Felony Offender.
