Fort Myers, FL — Rachel Reloni Robinson has been sentenced to 40 years in prison after being adjudicated guilty of Aggravated Battery, Petit Theft, and Resisting a Merchant’s Efforts. Robinson was convicted in June following a jury trial in Lee County.
The charges stem from a February 15, 2024, incident at a gas station on Cleveland Avenue. Officers with the Fort Myers Police Department responded to a report of an assault and found a man lying on the ground bleeding. Robinson was located nearby, talking on a cellphone. A witness identified her as the shooter, and an officer observed the handle of a firearm protruding from her handbag before detaining her.
During the trial, prosecutors presented surveillance video showing Robinson removing drinks from a store cooler and walking out without paying. When a store employee attempted to stop her by retrieving the drinks, Robinson punched him. As the victim tried to defend himself and retreat, Robinson shot him. The victim survived the attack.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Marilla Shoemaker.
“Outstanding work by all involved in securing justice and holding the offender accountable,” the Fort Myers Police Department said in a statement following the sentencing.
