Lake City Apartment Fire Displaces 50 Residents

LAKE CITY, Fla. – In the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 27, 2025, officers with the Lake City Police Department responded to a fire at Cedar Park Apartments, Building 399.

When officers arrived around 2:21 a.m., flames were already pouring out of apartment 206, which was fully engulfed. Officers immediately began evacuating residents and accounted for all tenants with help from the property manager.

Roughly 50 residents were displaced, and the American Red Cross responded to assist those affected. According to the apartment’s tenant, the fire may have started after she left her stove unattended while cooking.

The Lake City Fire Department, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia County Fire Rescue, and EMS all assisted in the response. Fortunately, no fire-related injuries were reported.

Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler praised the swift response of first responders, stating their quick action prevented loss of life.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office and CID detectives are investigating the cause of the blaze.
