CLAY COUNTY, Fla.—A 63-year-old man has been arrested after he allegedly fired a handgun at several businesses and pointed it at deputies, leading to an officer-involved shooting.
On August 30, Mark Allen Gulden, 63, was involved in an altercation with a firearm in Orange Park. The Orange Park Police Department issued a “Be on the Look Out” (BOLO) for him and his vehicle.
Shortly after, Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies located a similar vehicle at the Clay Electric Cooperative building. As deputies approached, they saw Gulden actively firing a handgun at the building and gate controls. Deputies gave verbal commands to drop the weapon, but Gulden pointed the firearm in their direction. One deputy then fired a single round, which did not strike the suspect. Gulden then threw the firearm on the ground and was tased and taken into custody without injury. The deputies were not injured.
Investigators later determined that between the two incidents, Gulden had also stopped at another unoccupied business on Kingsley Ave. and shot its glass front door.
Gulden was arrested and charged with:
- Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (2 counts)
- Resisting a Law Enforcement Officer with Violence
- Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm
- Criminal Mischief
The Orange Park Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office worked together to quickly resolve the series of incidents. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to call CCSO at (904) 264-6512 or submit a tip via the SaferWatch App.
