Teen Arrested for Attempted Murder After Social Media Dispute in Clay County

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla.—A 17-year-old male has been arrested on multiple charges, including three counts of attempted murder, after he allegedly shot a man during a pre-arranged fight that stemmed from a social media dispute.

On August 31, at approximately 11:09 p.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Office received a call about gunshots at the Lakeshore Boat Ramp. The caller provided a description of two vehicles leaving the scene. Deputies located and stopped one of the vehicles, from which the suspect, identified as Xavier Torres, fled on foot. He was apprehended by a K9 unit while hiding behind bushes at a nearby business.

Shortly after, a 19-year-old male from the second vehicle arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound. He is currently in critical but stable condition.

The investigation revealed that both parties had agreed to meet at the boat ramp to fight over a social media dispute. While the victim and two other occupants of his vehicle were in the parking lot, Torres fired several rounds into their vehicle, striking the victim. The two other occupants were not injured.

Torres was arrested for:

  • Attempted Murder (3 counts)
  • Under 18 Unlawfully Possessing a Firearm
  • Resisting a Law Enforcement Officer without Violence
  • Committing a 2nd Degree Felony or Higher while Wearing a Mask or Hood
