CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla.—A 19-year-old man has been arrested on 11 counts of possession of child pornography after a lengthy investigation by the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office High Tech Crimes Unit.
Detective Ben Wilson initiated the investigation after receiving a cyber-tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the transfer of suspected child pornography files on the “KIK” application.
Detective Wilson secured warrants and determined that 19-year-old Caleb Wayne Trantham was the owner of the account. The investigation revealed that Trantham had been sending files of child pornography as well as pictures of himself to other users across several applications.
After obtaining enough digital evidence, an arrest warrant was executed, and Trantham was taken into custody. He is being held at the Citrus County Detention Facility with no bond.
Sheriff David Vincent praised Detective Wilson’s work, stating, “Thanks to Detective Wilson’s hard work and perseverance, another predator was removed from our streets.” He also highlighted the importance of partnerships with outside agencies like NCMEC.
